My name is Ann, and together with my son, Matthew, who is on the autism spectrum, we created Connections in Action to help adults with developmental disabilities build healthy, meaningful, and safe friendships.
As Matthew became an adult, we saw firsthand how difficult it could be to make and maintain friendships. Despite wanting to connect with others, there were very few opportunities to meet people in a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment. We realized that many other adults with developmental disabilities—and their families—were facing the same challenges.
That's why we started Connections in Action. Our goal is to create opportunities for adults with developmental disabilities throughout Northeast Ohio to build genuine friendships, enjoy social activities, and develop greater confidence and independence in their relationships.
We believe everyone deserves the chance to belong, be accepted, and experience the joy that comes from meaningful connections. We hope Connections in Action becomes a place where friendships flourish, confidence grows, and everyone feels valued as part of a supportive community.
Communities We Serve
Connections in Action proudly serves adults with developmental disabilities in Cuyahoga and Lorain Counties, while also welcoming participants from surrounding areas throughout Northeast Ohio. We provide opportunities to build friendships, participate in social activities, and connect with others in a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment.
Our mission is to create meaningful connections and foster a sense of belonging by bringing people together through regular meet-ups, community activities, and virtual gatherings. As we grow, we hope to expand our reach and welcome even more communities throughout Northeast Ohio.
